Celebrate The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in Ohio

 

On August 8th 2008, the torch from the sacred plain of Olympia will be lit in the mysterious heartland of the Forbidden City of Beijing, China. It will be passed from the Parthenon to the Great Wall of China. Finally, the birthplace of western philosophy and literature will meet the cradle of compass, gunpowder, and printing. After 2487 years of long waiting, China finally welcomes her first Olympic Games.

As one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations with its culture dating back more than six thousand years, China has never been as new as today. China is becoming one of the world's biggest economies that powers up the world’s economy, and it is growing fast. It is playing a leader role in technology and innovation as well as manufacturing. Chinese people, while rejuvenating their traditional Confucianism philosophy, Buddhism religion and culture, is also learning from the West like never before. Chinese youngsters love iPod, Hollywood and NBA as much as others in the world.

To welcome the world to China, introduce the New China to the rest of the world and celebrate the opening of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games in August, Chinese Students and Scholars Society at The Ohio State University (CSSS@OSU), together with sixteen other organizations across the States, is going to hold one of this year's biggest events at Ohio State - “Celebrating The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in Ohio” – on OSU campus from April 18th to 27th 2008. This event consists of four modules with a Grand Opening held in front of the Ohio Statehouse in downtown Columbus: Cultural Festival, Soccer Tournament, Photo Exhibition, and Chinese Traditional Dance Show. By then thousands of Ohioans will visit OSU campus and experience the fascinating Chinese history, culture and arts as well as enjoy delicious Chinese food, fun Chinese games and music and win special gifts.

Cultural Festival

2. Chinese Cultural Festival

Time: April 26, 3pm-9pm
Location: OSU RPAC Outdoor Plaza Deck
Description:
Big booth-exhibition of three parts: Traditional China, New China and The Olympics. You will have the chance to enjoy Chinese traditional operas, martial arts, Chinese food, music, Chinese calligraphy, ink-paintings and much more. Read more...

3. Photo Exhibition - 2008 Olympic Impression in China

Dancing Show

5. "Color of Spring" Chinese Traditional Dancing Show

Time: April 20th, 7:00 pm to 9:30pm
Location: Weigel Hall (On OSU campus, 1866 College Rd., Columbus, OH 43210)
Description:
The “Color of Spring” Dancing Show will feature folk dances from different Chinese ethnic groups, including Han,  Tibetan, Uighur, Korean, Yi, Dai, Mongol, Va and Classical Chinese dances. Bring your family, friends and colleagues and join us in the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the OSU China Oriental Folk Dance Team and the upcoming Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in China, and enjoy a wonderful evening of Chinese folk dances!
